Minipress: instruction, application, and the formula

Hypertension, heart failure early stages of benign prostatic hyperplasia.


Hypersensitivity (including to other quinazolines), cardiac failure on the background of constrictive pericarditis, cardiac tamponade, defects with reduced left ventricular filling pressure, pregnancy, breast-feeding.

Side effects of Minipress

The phenomenon of the first dose (sudden hypotension in orthostatic position, fainting, headache, weakness, palpitations), sleep disorders, weakness, fatigue, depression, nervousness, nausea, dry mouth, diarrhea, frequent urination, lower extremity edema, rash.



From the nervous system: dizziness, headache, drowsiness, weakness, anxiety, depression, paresthesias, hallucinations, impaired perception, emotional disturbances.

From the urinary system: frequent urination.

From the digestive system: dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, constipation or diarrhea.

From the senses: the noise in the ears, darkening of the eyes, blurred vision, redness of the conjunctiva and cornea.

From the CCC: the excessive reduction of blood pressure, angina pain, tachycardia, palpitations, peripheral edema, shortness of breath, the phenomenon of “first dose” (orthostatic collapse, fainting, headache, weakness, palpitations).

Other: nasal congestion, nosebleeds; pyrexia, rash, alopecia, priapism, reduced potency, the appearance of antinuclear factors, arthralgia.

Allergic reactions: itching, skin rash.

Overdose. Symptoms: marked reduction of blood pressure.

Treatment: The patient should be given a horizontal position with raised legs; if necessary – plasma-substituting solutions vasopressor drugs.

Monitoring the patient’s condition (including kidney).

Method of use and dosage

Inside. Starting dose – 0.5-1 mg at bedtime in a horizontal position. Later – 1 mg 2-3 times a day. At intervals of 5-7 days, the daily dose can be increased up to 6-15 mg (2-3 doses). The maximum daily dose – 20 mg, the maximal effect occurs within 4-6 weeks.
