Structure and Composition
1 tablet contains 500 mg cephalexin (monohydrate); Capsule 1 – 250 or 500 mg; 5 ml of a suspension prepared from pellets – 250 or 125 mg.
The drug used in the treatment of:
Infectious disease (mild to moderate) caused by susceptible microorganisms: infections of upper respiratory tract (including otitis media, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, sinusitis), upper and lower respiratory tract infections (pneumonia, bronchitis, pneumonia, empyema, abscess lung), urinary tract (including acute and chronic pyelonephritis, cystitis, urethritis), gynecological infections (including endometritis, vulvovaginitis), skin and soft tissue (furunculosis, abscess, cellulitis, pyoderma), bones and joints (including acute and chronic osteomyelitis), prostatitis, epididymitis, gonorrhea, lymphangitis.
Restrictions apply to:
Renal failure, pseudomembranous colitis (in history), infants (up to 6 months).
Keflex side effects:
– arthralgia, arthritis, reversible interstitial nephritis,
– eosinophilia, neutropenia, thrombocytopenia,
– increased activity hepatic transaminases,
– genital candidiasis, pseudomembranous colitis,
– allergic reactions (rash, urticaria, angioedema, erythema, anaphylaxis),
– abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, dyspepsia,
– diarrhea, cholestatic jaundice, dizziness,
– weakness, headache, agitation,
– itching genitals and anus, vaginitis.
Dosage and administration:
Inside 1-4 grams per day in divided doses (usually 250 mg every 6 hours).
Streptococcal pharyngitis, skin infections and uncomplicated cystitis (for patients older than 15 years) – 500 mg every 12 hours for 7-24 days.
When an infectious process caused by beta-hemolytic streptococcus – 10 days.
Children (over 1 year) – 25-50 mg / kg / day in divided doses.
Streptococcal pharyngitis, urinary tract diseases mild, skin infections – in 2 divided doses.
In the case of severe infections, the dose may be doubled.
