Levlen: Side effects, Contraindications, Possible consequences

Levlen is a hormonal oral contraception medication, it prevents ovulation and pregnancy.


Hormonal contraception


Hypersensitivity, thrombosis (arterial and venous), including: in history (deep venous thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, myocardial infarction, cerebrovascular accident).

Conditions prior thrombosis (eg transient ischemic attack, angina pectoris), including: history.

Diabetes mellitus with vascular complications.



The presence of serious or multiple risk factors for venous or arterial thrombosis.

Side effects

Bloating, breast tenderness; headache; migraine; changes in libido; depressed mood; poor tolerance of contact lenses; nausea; vomiting; changes in vaginal secretion; various skin reactions; fluid retention; change in body weight; allergic reactions. Rarely — chloasma (especially with a history of pregnancy chloasma). Overdose Janine. Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, and slight vaginal bleeding (in girls). Treatment: symptomatic, there is no specific antidote.

Used Levlen

The drug is used if:

Prevention of pregnancy;

Restoration of the menstrual cycle;

Treatment of acne, hirsutism and male pattern hair loss, which had been triggered by an excess of male hormones (in the complex therapy).

Possible consequences

Spotting; Increasing the mammary secretions of occurrence thereof; Frequent change of mood, fatigue; Abdominal pain, vomiting; Allergic reactions (skin rash, pruritus and burning sensation); Fluid retention in the body.
