Protonix : indication to the application, the application

Protonix is the anti-ulcer, reducing the acidity of the gastric drug, a proton pump inhibitor. The active substance is pantoprazole. Protonix decreases a ruining effect of stomach acid on mucous of esophagus and used to heal erosive esophagitis.

Gastric ulcer or duodenal ulcer in the acute phase, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, eradication of Helicobacter pylori (in combination with antibiotic therapy), reflux esophagitis.

Application of Protonix

Duodenal ulcer or stomach in the acute phase, including associated with NSAID, or refractory to therapy with histamine H2-receptor; gastroesophageal reflux disease (moderate and severe); Zollinger-Ellison syndrome; Combined H. pylori eradication therapy in patients with peptic ulcer to reduce the frequency of relapses.

Contraindications of Protonix

Hypersensitivity, hepatitis and cirrhosis of the liver, accompanied by severe hepatic insufficiency.

Restrictions apply

Abnormal liver function, children’s age (application experience in children under 6 years old is absent).

Side effects

From the digestive tract: diarrhea; rarely — dry mouth, increased appetite, nausea, belching, vomiting, flatulence, abdominal pain, constipation, increased activity of transaminases, gastrointestinal carcinoma (single instance).

From the nervous system and sensory organs: headache; rarely — fatigue, dizziness, somnolence, insomnia; in some cases — anxiety, depression, tremor, paresthesia, photophobia, blurred vision, tinnitus.

With the genitourinary system: in rare cases — hematuria, edema, impotence.

Skin: in rare cases — alopecia, acne, exfoliative dermatitis.

Allergic reactions: seldom — rash, urticaria, pruritus, angioedema.

Other: rarely — hyperglycemia, myalgia; in rare cases — fever, eosinophilia, hyperlipoproteinemia, hypercholesterolemia.

Dosage

The average therapeutic dose is 40 mg / day. The maximum daily dose is 80 mg. Duration of therapy is set depending on the evidence, but it should not exceed 8 weeks.

Overdose of Protonix

Symptoms are not described.

Treatment: It is recommended carrying out a supportive and symptomatic therapy for suspected overdose. Dialysis is ineffective.
