Zagam is a remedy that helps organism to fight with bacteria and microorganism. The main component of this antibiotic is Sparfloxacin that heals infections of different sorts: respiratory tract infections, ENT diseases, contagions of skin and tissues, venereal diseases, kidney and urinary tracts infections. It also cures from the infection that was brought during surgical intervention.



Clinico-pharmacological group: antibacterial drug of Fluoroquinolone group.

Composition, structure and packing: white round film-coated pellets with a “RPR 201” mark on its side.

Basic ingredient: Sparfloxacin.

Other ingredients: cellulose, L-hydroxypropylcellulose NF, corn starch NF, magnesium stearate NF, colloidal silicone dioxide NF are the adjuvants of the medicine.

The composition of the film coating: PEG 6000, titanium dioxide USP, Methylhydroxypropylcellulose USP.

An exact dose of Zagam is prescribed by a doctor. Zagam can be taken orally during meal or after it drinking a full glass of water. Try to make intervals between taking the drug even.

Usually patients that do not have problems with kidneys take 2 pills on the first day (200 mg) and then 1 pill a day (200 mg). The treatment takes ten days. If a patient has renal disorders he/she takes two pills on the first day (200 mg) and then one pill per two days (200 mg). The therapy takes 9 days in this case.

For four hours at least after taking the medicine avoid taking medicines which include aluminum, magnesium, zinc, the ulcer medicine sucralfate, iron because they are able to influence the sparfloxacin effectiveness.

It is compulsory to follow the prescribed dosage regimen till the end of the treatment. Symptoms are eased after certain time of taking the medicine but it is important to continue taking it to eliminate the disease completely.


If a patient overdose, he/she should consult a doctor who will monitor the health condition with special equipment. For 5 days it is better to avoid rays of sun. One of the possible symptoms of overdosage is slowing or fastening heartbeat. Nowadays a remedy that would help an organism to overcome overdosage of this medicine does not exist.

Side effects

Allergy, dizziness, slowing down or fasting heartbeats, pain or discomfort in chest, difficult breathing, legs/feet swelling, confusion or hallucinations, seizures; liver damage, pain in muscles or joints. Allergic reaction includes problems with breathing, swelling body parts. After experiencing such effects, a patient should stop taking the medicine.

If he has drowsiness, vomiting, diarrhea, lightheadedness, nausea, headache, constipation, or his skin sensitivity to sun rays has increased, or he hear ringing he should continue taking Zagam but say to his doctor about these symptoms.

During the therapy it is better to avoid activities that require increased attention and fast reaction.

Indications for use

  • respiratory tract infections and ENT diseases (pneumonia, otitis, sinusitis, laryngitis, exacerbation of chronic lung diseases);
  • contagions of skin and tissues (furunculosis, abscess, infected wounds, pyoderma);
  • venereal diseases (gonorrhea, clamidiosis);
  • kidney and urinary tracts infections (pyelitis, cystitis, urethritis);
  • gastrointestinal tract infections (shigellosis, salmonellosis);
  • surgical infections.


Patients who have hypersensitivity (including hypersensitivity to other quinolones) or photosensitivity reactions are to avoid taking this drug as well as pregnant women or breastfeeding women and patients that are not 18-yaers-old. The exact effect on pregnant and breastfeeding women have not been tested enough and its safety have not been confirmed yet. People with epilepsy cannot use Zagnam.

During therapy patients can experience prolonging of QT for about 11 milliseconds. That’s why the remedy should be prescribed people with heart diseases with caution. Because of possibility of convulsions patients who have illness, symptoms of which can be convulsions, should also take the drug with caution.

Zagam is also contradicted to people that take antiarrhythmic and antihistaminic drugs simultaneously with this remedy. Patients that cannot avoid insolation because of their profession or other reasons should use it cautiously. The same is for people suffering atherosclerosis or cerebrovascular disease.
