Vibramycin is an antibiotic of a broad spectrum of activity which are slowing down growth and development of causative agents of various infectious diseases.

Clinico-pharmacological group: It is semi-synthetic antibiotic of tetracycline’s group of a broad spectrum of activity. Has bacteriostatic effect. It’s active concerning any type of Staphylococcus spp and Streptococcus spp, Neisseria gonorrhoeae.

After intake the medicine is almost completely soaked up from a gastrointestinal tract. The nutrition doesn’t influence absorption of the preparation. The maximum concentration of the medicine in a blood plasma is defined by 2 h after intake. Protein binding of plasma- 80-95%. The time of semi-removal makes 15 to 25 h. The most part of the medicine is removed with some feces.

Composition, structure and packing: capsules contain 100 mg of doxycycline- 10 pieces in the blister, 1 blister in cardboard packing.

Basic ingredient: doxycycline hydrochloride

Other ingredients: lactose,maize starch,povidone,starch wheat,cellulosic polymer coating.

The composition of the coating film: The capsules are light blue and contain gelatin, silicon dioxide, sodium lauryl sulfate, titanium dioxide. It is imprinted with “PFIZER 095” on one half.

Dosage

For adult – 200 mg/days inside or intravenously (driply) at first, in subsequently days- on 100-200 mg/days. Frequency rate of reception (or intravenously) – 1-2 times/days. For children from 8 years and with a body weight more than 50 kg the daily dose for intake or introduction intravenously (driply) makes 4 mg/kg at first. In the subsequently days 2-4 mg/kg/days, depending on gravity of a clinical course of a disease. Frequency rate of reception (or intravenously) – 1-2 times/days.

Limit doses: for adult for intake – 300 mg/days or 600 mg/days (depending on an originator etiology); for intravenously introduction -300 mg/days.

Nongonococcal urethritis: inside, 100 mg 2 times per day within 7 days.

At venereal lymphogranulomatosis: inside, 100 mg 2 times per day during, at least, 21 days.

At uncomplicated gonococcal infections of a neck of a uterus, rectum or urethra: inside, 100 mg 2 times per day within 7 days in combination with a cephalosporin or fluoroquinolones, for instance: cefixime 400 mg once inside, ceftriaxone 125 mg once, ciprofloxacin of 500 mg once inside or ofloxacin 400 mg once inside.

The uncomplicated gonococcal infections of a pharynx: a doxycycline of 100 mg in 2 times per day within 7 days in combination with a cephalosporin or fluoroquinolones, for instance: ceftriaxone 125 mg once, ciprofloxacin of 500 mg once inside or ofloxacin 400 mg once inside.

Acute inflammatory diseases of a small pelvis: the hospitalized patients – a doxycycline on 100 mg each 12 h in combination with cefoxitin 2 g intravenously each 6 h, at least, 4 days and at least, 24-48 h after improvement of a condition of the patient. Then continue treatment by a doxycycline on 100 mg in 2 times per day that the general duration of a course of its application made 14 days. Ambulatories – a doxycycline on 100 mg in 2 times per day within 14 days as addition to a ceftriaxone – 250 mg once or to a cefoxitin – 2 g in combination with probenecid 1 g in once or other cephalosporin of 3 generations for parenteral application (for example to a ceftrizoksime or a cefotaxime).

Treating of the malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum: 200 mg/days during, at least 7 days.

Treatment and prophylaxis of cholera at adults: 300 mg once.

Prophylaxis of Japanese river fever: 200 mg once inside.

Treating of a canicola fever: 100 mg in 2 times per day within 7 days.

Overdose

Side effects: cough,bloating,diarrhea,allergic reactions, an itch, a dermal eruption (because of Sodium sulfitums),giddiness,a sweating contain.

At prolonged use of the medicine perhaps: a neutropenia, haemolytic anaemia,development of a candidiasis, intestinal dysbacteriosis, a reinfection refractory strains, a steady discoloration of an adamantine substance of tooth.

Indications for use

The infections caused sensitive and intracellular microorganisms: Ku’s fever, typhoid (including sypny, returnable), brucellosis, Lyme’s illness (I stage), actinomycosis, malaria; as a part of the combined therapy — a canicola fever, trachoma, an ornithosis; pleuritis, cholecystitis, cholangitis, gastroenterocolitis, proctitis, periodontitis, peritonitis, infections of urinary tract, inflammatory diseases of organs of a small pelvis in an acute stage at women (endometritis), an acute prostatitis, an epididymitis, a gonorrhea, a lues (at an allergy to Penicillinum), purulent infections of a skin and soft tissues (the phlegmon, abscess, a furunculosis, a panaritium infected combustions, wounds, an acne eruption), infectious diseases of eyes, including an ulcerative keratitis. Prophylaxis of postoperative purulent complications after surgical infections, including after medical abortion, operations on a colon.

Contraindications

hypersensitivity to the tetracycline, pregnancy (second half), breastfeeding (for treatment it’s necessary to refrain from breastfeeding), serious liver failure
