Keftab is a cephalosporin antibiotic. The drug stops the growth, kills and fights of some bacteria in the body. It has a wide spectrum of action. Affects: Staphylococcus spp, Streptococcus spp. (Including Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes), Corynebacterium diphtheriae; Gram-negative organisms — Neisseria meningitidis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Shigella spp, Salmonella spp, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella spp… (Including Klebsiella pneumoniae), Moraxella catarrhalis, Proteus mirabilis; Treponema spp., Ray fungi.

Dosage

Inside, for 30-60 minutes before meals, with water.

The average dose for adults and children over 10 years:

250 — 500 mg every 6 hours.

The daily dose should be at least 1.2 gram, it may be increased to four grams, if necessary.

The duration of treatment: 7-14 days.

Adult patients with impaired renal function: the daily dose is reduced to 1.5 grams per day or 0.5 g per day. The daily dose is divided into 4 doses.

Children under the age of 10: the preparation in the form of a suspension.

When a body weight < than 40 kg, the mean daily dose: 25-100 mg / kg body weight.

In otitis media: a dose of 75 mg / kg / day, number of intakes — 4 times per day.

When streptococcal pharyngitis, skin infections and soft tissues of the multiplicity of reception: 2 times a day.

In severe infections the daily dose can be increased to 100 mg / kg body weight and the multiplicity of reception — up to 6 times per day.

Side effect

Allergic reactions: rash, urticaria, angioedema, erythema. Rarely — eosinophilia, toxic epidermal necrolysis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, anaphylactic shock.

From the digestive system: abdominal pain, dry mouth, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, chronic hepatitis, cholestatic jaundice, increase in liver transaminases and alkaline phosphatase, intestinal candidiasis, oral pseudomembranous enterocolitis.

From the nervous system: dizziness, weakness, headache, agitation, hallucinations, seizures.

With the genitourinary system: interstitial nephritis, itchy genitals and anus, vaginitis, vaginal candidiasis genitals.

From the side of hematopoiesis: leukopenia, neutropenia, thrombocytopenia.

From the musculoskeletal system: arthralgia, arthritis.

Contraindications

  • Children up to age 3 years (for capsules);
  • Hypersensitivity (including to other beta-lactam antibiotics).

During pregnancy and lactation

Use of the drug during pregnancy and lactation is possible only after consultation with your doctor.

Overdose

Symptoms: vomiting, nausea, epigastric pain, diarrhea, hematuria.

Treatment: activated carbon (more effective than lavage), maintaining the airway, monitoring- vital signs, blood gas, electrolyte balance.
