Sinemet: Pharmacological groups, Instructions for use

Sinemet is formulated from two medications: carbidopa and levodopa. It is used relieve symptoms of Parkinson’s disease such as the muscle tremor, stiffness, and weakness.

Structure and Composition of Sinemet

Sinemet 1 tablet contains 25 mg of carbidopa and 250 mg of levodopa; in blister 10 pcs., in a box of 10 blisters.

1 tablet of Sinemet CP — 50 mg of carbidopa and 200 mg of levodopa; in blister 10 pcs., in a box of 10 blisters.

Sinemet is a combination of carbidopa and levodopa applied in treatment of Parkinson's disease and Dopa-Responsive Dystonia (DRD).

Indications of the drug Sinemet

Disease and Parkinson’s syndrome: rigidity, bradykinesia, tremor, dysphagia, sialoreya, postural instability of the body.

Contraindications of Sinemet

Hypersensitivity, undiagnosed skin disease, a history of melanoma, angle-closure glaucoma, pregnancy, lactation, age (under 18 years).

Side effects of Sinemet

Dyskinesia (blepharospasm, muscle twitching, choreiform, dystonic, and others. Involuntary movements), transient psychosis, depression, dementia, dizziness, drowsiness, lack of appetite, nausea, vomiting, bleeding from the gastrointestinal tract, development of duodenal ulcer, palpitations, orthostatic hypotension, pain in the chest, shortness of breath, anemia, thrombocytopenia, agranulocytosis, paresthesia.

Dosing and Administration of Sinemet

Inside. Recommended individual dose selection. Initial dose — 1/2 Table. 1-2 times per day; if necessary, added Table 2.1. every day or every other day (up to optimum effect); the maximum daily dose — 8 tablets.

Precautionary measures

Precautions: patients with severe diseases of the cardiovascular system, lung (including asthma), kidney, liver, and endocrine system, peptic ulcer history, seizures, chronic open-angle glaucoma. Recommended periodic monitoring of liver function, blood and cardiovascular system, kidneys. Cancelling should be gradual.
